# Cycling magazine app: races, bike tests and monthly routes for your subscribers

## Readers follow the season in your magazine's own app; paying readers get the in-depth pieces, the tests and the mapped routes, still readable when the signal drops.

Bring your cycling magazine to iPhone and Android as a native app, code-free: race coverage, gear tests and route guides for paying readers, a monthly or annual plan billed by the stores, and routes plotted on a map.

## What subscribers unlock

### The stage analysis, the bike test, the route guide: you pick what's reserved

Race results and short news stay free; the stage-by-stage analysis, the long-term test of a gravel bike and the monthly route guide go to subscribers. For each reserved piece, you choose how much a visitor reads before the subscription screen. Subscriptions open once at least ten pieces are reserved, and they give every subscriber the same access.

## Routes of the month on a map, for subscribers

![](https://portalstorage.ww-cdn.com/misc/1712045266954_31-light__users.svg)

### Start, climbs, café stop: each point reserved, each route readable off the grid

Publish each route as points on a Map section: the start, the climbs, the café stop, the water refill. Like your articles, map points can be locked for subscribers. A route opened before setting off stays readable without a network, and the start point launches the directions on the rider's phone.

## One tap to subscribe, from the phone

### Monthly or yearly, settled by the phone's store account

Riders subscribe from their phone with the store account it already knows, typing nothing. Monthly price, yearly price, a different amount per store if needed, and a trial month to sample the routes: you set it all. Web readers are sent to the app to take out the subscription, and can log in on the web afterwards.

## Opening subscriptions: the three settings

What you prepare in the back office before the first subscriber.

1. 1

### The sections
Racing, gear, routes, training: sort your articles, and mark at least ten as reserved.

2. 2

### The prices
Two prices, monthly and yearly, entered separately for Apple's and Google's stores, and a trial period if you choose.

3. 3

### The notifications
Automatic push for each new issue, and a scheduled push on the mornings of the big races.

Handle store submission yourself, or hand it to GoodBarber's publishing service, subscriptions included.

## Your app, the print subscription or a paid newsletter?

Three ways a cycling title sells its content today.

| | Your app with GoodBarber | Print subscription | Paid newsletter |

| Readable on the road without network | ✓ pages already opened | ✓ the paper copy | depending on the email app |

## Also in the magazine's app

### Race calendar

The season's races in the Agenda, so readers know when to expect your analysis.

### Bookmarks

Readers save a route or a test to find it before the ride.

### Reader photos

Readers submit photos of their rides in the Submission section, and you pick the ones worth publishing.

### Videos

Road tests and filmed descents, in a Videos section you can reserve.

### Search

A search field to find a test or a route in the archive.

### Complimentary access

A subscription granted by hand, for a partner bike shop or a local club.

## AI in your magazine

Three uses for the editorial team, price included.

To answer

### Tests and routes, on request

“Which of the gravel bikes you tested takes the widest tires?” The Chatbot builds its answer from your articles and map points, in the reader's language; non-subscribers only get what the free pieces say.

$35/month

To extend

### A gear ratio calculator

The AI Extension Builder creates it from a description you type in the back office: “a calculator that shows the distance covered per pedal turn from the chainring, the sprocket and the tire size”.

Free

To publish

### The route of the month mapped from Claude or ChatGPT

With the MCP server, Claude or ChatGPT creates the route's map points from your notes and drafts the article's push; nothing goes live without your go-ahead.

Included

## Ads for free readers, clean pages for subscribers

### Sponsors stay visible to non-subscribers; one option removes ads for subscribers

A bike brand's banner through your internal ad server, or Google AdMob and Google Ad Manager: ads fund the free part of the magazine. With one option, subscribers read without them, one more reason to subscribe. GoodBarber's cut of your subscriptions is zero; the stores keep theirs.

## How much does a cycling magazine app cost?

Paid access runs through the iPhone and Android apps, so start from Premium plus Memberships, or from Pro, which bundles it. Hosting, updates and notifications are covered, and readers' bandwidth is never billed.

| **Premium** · magazine on iOS, Android and web | $55 /month, billed yearly |
| ---------------------------------------------- | -------------------------- |
| Memberships, on top of Premium | $49 /month |
| **Pro** · Memberships already included | $105 /month, billed yearly |

Apple and Google deduct their fee from every subscription, usually 15%. Apple's rate is 30% during the first year of each subscription unless you've joined its small business program. GoodBarber deducts nothing. Apple and Google also bill their developer accounts.

### [GoodBarber is a powerful app builder.](https://www.trustpilot.com/reviews/60f08679f9f48702a8e6869e)

GoodBarber is a powerful app builder. If you want to build your app using a pre-built template, GoodBarber is ideal for you. At Global Academy, we almost completed the 5th year using their easy-to-use pre-built platforms to build premium Apps for our customers. Also, Goodbarber's customer support is excellent. Highly recommended.

Great support and always very helpful answers. Nothing is too trivial for the team to answer.

### [Responsive support and usually quick.](https://www.trustpilot.com/reviews/60ad3c03f9f4870a94ace1d1)

Responsive support and usually quick. Software is by far the best in the market, with tremendous capabilities for configurations.

## Cycling magazine app: questions from editors

**### Can a subscriber read a route without network?**

Yes, if they opened it once with a connection: articles and map points already viewed stay readable offline. Videos need a network.

**### Can I reserve map points for subscribers?**

Yes: map points lock for subscribers just like articles, events and videos. Photo galleries are the exception.

**### What happens to my print subscribers?**

Your print subscription stays as it is; the app sells its own subscription through the stores. A subscription bought elsewhere isn't recognized automatically, but you can open access by hand from the back office.

**### Can readers record their rides in the app?**

No: the app is a magazine, not a ride recorder. It shows your routes and opens directions in the phone's map app; readers record their rides with the tool they already use.

**### Can I make the yearly subscription cheaper than twelve months?**

Yes: you set the monthly price and the yearly price freely on each store. There is one level of access, but several durations are possible.

**### How much does a cycling magazine app cost?**

A native app is the prerequisite: Memberships comes on top of Premium, or inside Pro. Nothing extra for hosting, notifications or updates; the developer fees are settled directly with Apple and Google.
