# Health and wellness magazine app: subscribers and advertisers, two revenues for one title

## Readers get part of the magazine for free, with ads, subscribe to open the in-depth features without ads, and are alerted to every new issue.

Your health and wellness magazine, carried by a native app you set up without code: open articles funded by advertising, features reserved for subscribers, a built-in consent banner, and a push for every issue.

## Sleep, food, fitness, balance: the magazine in sections

### Each article stays open or becomes reserved, depending on its worth

Organize the app like your print table of contents: food, sleep, physical activity, mental balance, women's health. News briefs and everyday tips stay open and bring readers in; the in-depth features become reserved. A non-subscriber discovers the opening of each feature, cut at the paragraph of your choice, then sees the invitation to subscribe. Sales start once at least ten pieces of content are locked.

## Two revenues: subscribers and advertisers

![](https://portalstorage.ww-cdn.com/misc/1712045266954_31-light__users.svg)

### Advertising pays for free reading, the subscription removes the ads

A health magazine rarely lives on a single source. Sell your ad slots directly, to a health insurer or a sports brand, through the app's internal ad server, or fill them with Google AdMob and Google Ad Manager. Free readers see the ads; one setting removes them for subscribers, who then pay for two things: the features and ad-free reading. GoodBarber takes nothing from subscriptions; only the store keeps its share.

## Ad consent, already built in

### A GDPR banner, compatible with IAB TCF v2, set up in the Privacy Center

Showing ads in Europe means collecting the reader's consent. The Consent EU tab of the Privacy Center installs a consent management platform compatible with IAB TCF v2 and Google Funding Choices: readers make their choices, and the app records and honors them. Reader data is hosted in Europe, and the app only asks for the permissions its features need.

## An app, an ad-funded website, or a newsletter platform?

Three media for a health magazine, compared on what matters to a publisher.

## An editorial team, an alert for every issue

### Writers, scheduled publishing, targeted push

Each journalist publishes in the CMS with the rights you grant, and a feature can be scheduled to appear on Monday at 7 a.m. On release, an automatic push goes out with the lead-in you picked, such as “Feature:”. To win back readers who rarely open the app, target them by how many times they opened it over the last 30 days.

## Three uses of AI for the magazine

What each one brings, and its price.

To answer

### The archives, searched in plain language

“What has the magazine published about napping?” The Chatbot looks for the answer in articles already out, writes it in the reader's language, and points to the articles it quotes. Without a subscription, a reader only receives answers from open articles.

$35/month

To extend

### The seasonal fruit and vegetable calendar

A few sentences in the back office are enough to describe it; the AI Extension Builder generates the section, where each month shows its produce and the magazine's recipes.

Free

To operate

### This week's issue prepared with your assistant

Through the MCP server, Claude or ChatGPT acts on the app: it lines up the feature's release and the push announcing it, and runs nothing until you agree.

Included

### The monthly health title sold at newsstands

It keeps print, and the app publishes every week: reserved features, open news briefs with ads.

### The ad-funded wellness website

It adds a subscription for its long features without losing its advertisers, who stay visible to free readers.

### The independent health journalist

To publish under one's own name rather than a press title, the health journalist app is a better fit.

## The magazine in your pocket, down to the details

### Bookmarks

A feature set aside is read again in the evening, in peace.

### Search across every issue

Find an article on menopause or sleep, whatever its date.

### End-of-publication dates

A partner offer disappears on its own on the planned date.

### Exercise videos

A stretching session illustrates an article, in a video section.

### Your website as an RSS feed

The site's articles fill an open section, with no double entry.

### A web version

A subscriber can also read the magazine on a computer.

## Budget: a health magazine's app

The native apps, where subscriptions are sold, start with Premium; the Memberships extension is added to it, and Pro builds it in. The advertising extensions and the Privacy Center come at no extra cost.

| **Premium** · native apps, web version | $55 /month, billed yearly |
| --------------------------------------- | -------------------------- |
| Memberships, a Premium option | $49 /month |
| **Pro** · subscriptions already covered | $105 /month, billed yearly |

The stores take their share of subscriptions, GoodBarber takes none. Budget your Apple and Google developer accounts separately.

## GoodBarber customers' opinion

Customers from every sector describe their experience.

### [GoodBarber is a powerful app builder.](https://www.trustpilot.com/reviews/60f08679f9f48702a8e6869e)

GoodBarber is a powerful app builder. If you want to build your app using a pre-built template, GoodBarber is ideal for you. At Global Academy, we almost completed the 5th year using their easy-to-use pre-built platforms to build premium Apps for our customers. Also, Goodbarber's customer support is excellent. Highly recommended.

### [Great support and always very helpful answers.](https://www.trustpilot.com/reviews/60c0ca7cf9f487099ce24eb9)

Great support and always very helpful answers. Nothing is too trivial for the team to answer.

### [Responsive support and usually quick.](https://www.trustpilot.com/reviews/60ad3c03f9f4870a94ace1d1)

Responsive support and usually quick. Software is by far the best in the market, with tremendous capabilities for configurations.

## Health and wellness magazine app: your questions

**### Will my free readers still see ads?**

Yes. As long as a reader doesn't pay, the ads served by your own server or by Google's networks remain on screen; one option hides them from subscribers.

**### Do I need a consent banner for advertising?**

In Europe, yes, and it is provided: the Consent EU tab of the Privacy Center handles consent under IAB TCF v2 and Google Funding Choices. You switch it on, and the app records and honors each reader's choice.

**### Should my articles carry a medical disclaimer?**

It is wise. A health magazine informs and does not replace a consultation: say so on an “About our content” page reachable from the menu, and avoid promising any health result, in headlines as in the texts.

**### Can I sell a nutrition subscription and a sleep subscription?**

No: a single level of access covers the whole magazine. The choice is about length, a month or a year, each with its own price on each store.

**### Can my print subscribers read the app without paying again?**

Not by default: in the app, subscriptions are handled by Apple and Google, who don't know your print list. From the back office, you can give those readers access one by one, for the period you choose.

**### Which GoodBarber plan for a health and wellness magazine?**

Either Premium with the Memberships extension added, or the Pro plan, where it is part of the package. Selling also needs the web version live on a domain name you own.
