1. How the IndexNow protocol works
IndexNow is an open protocol that sends an instant signal to search engines whenever an URL on your PWA is created, updated, or deleted.
Instead of waiting for search engine crawlers to visit your site on their own schedule, GoodBarber automatically notifies search engines of content changes in real time. A single notification submitted to IndexNow is automatically distributed to all participating search engines.

GoodBarber handles all backend operations automatically:
- Automatic hosting and publication of the verification key file at the root of your PWA domain.
- Automatic and optimized notifications sent to search engines whenever you create, edit, or delete content.
2. Generate and set up the IndexNow key
To use IndexNow, you need an API key (8 to 128 characters using letters, digits, and hyphens). You can generate one via Bing or create your own:
Option A: Generate a key via Bing (Recommended)*
If you prefer not to use Bing, you can generate your own key using a UUID/GUID generator or command-line tool. Refer to the IndexNow FAQ for key specifications.
*The Bing page displays a 4-step integration process.Only Step 1 concerns you.
You do not need to follow steps 2, 3, or 4 on Bing to enable IndexNow for your GoodBarber PWA.
Option A: Generate a key via Bing (Recommended)*
- Go to the official Bing IndexNow page and scroll down to the Generate API Key section.
- Copy the key text pre-generated on screen (highlight the code and copy it, as the arrow icon downloads a text file instead).
- In your GoodBarber back office, go to the menu Sales channels > PWA > SEO :: Tab Sitemap .
- Turn on the IndexNow toggle switch.
- Paste your key into the IndexNow Key field and click Save.
