How to manage PDF files

PDF files

A menu, a timetable, a brochure or a print edition: many apps share documents as PDF files. You can attach a PDF to an article, or store it in My files and link to it from your menu or your texts.

Attach a PDF to an article

To attach one, open an article from the Content list.

At the bottom of the Info tab, PDF attachment has a Browse button: pick the file on your computer.

The PDF is attached right away, without saving the article. Its name appears here.

The pen renames it: this name becomes the link people see in the app.

In the preview, the PDF sits at the end of the article, under its new name.

An article holds one PDF. To change it, delete it with the bin, then attach the new one.

My files

To link to a PDF from anywhere, store it in My files, in the Settings, under Other Settings.

Drop the file here, or browse your computer.

The PDF joins the list, with its size and date. Its address is your app's address, followed by /docs/ and the file's name… and to get it, click the icon on the left of the name: the PDF opens in a new tab, with its address ready to copy.

To sort your files, create a directory… then open it to add files to it.

Its name is added to the address of the files you drop there. The two dots take you back up.

Update a PDF

To update the PDF, upload the new version with the same name… it replaces the old one at the same address, so every link to it keeps working.

Link to it

To open the PDF from the menu, click Add a section at the end of the Menu… then search for link to find the Link card.

Point at it to see what it adds: a menu entry that opens an outside address. Click Add.

Name the section. Choose External link and paste the file's address. Then click Add.

The section joins your app's menu… and its page in the preview shows where it leads.

In a text, select words, click the link button and choose External link, with the same address.

Once you save, the words lead to the PDF. The address also works in a URL section, or in a Link widget on the Home.

Files and attachments are live as soon as they are uploaded. A new section reaches your published app once you publish it, with Publish my project.
