Regulations on co-branded cards: make sure your eCommerce app is ready

on

On the 30th of September, a new European regulation on co-branded banking cards comes into force. For owners of eCommerce applications created with GoodBarber, this legislative change may seem complex, but rest assured, GoodBarber has taken all the necessary steps to ensure that your app remains compliant.

What are the regulations on co-branded banking cards?

The aim of this new European regulation is to offer greater transparency and choice to users of co-branded bankcards, i.e. those with the logo of two different payment networks (for example, in France, the Carte Bancaire network and the Visa network, or the Carte Bancaire network and the MasterCard network).

When making a payment, users must be able to choose which network they wish to use for the transaction. This option should apply both to one-off payments and to cards stored in the app.

How can you check that your app complies with these regulations?

When a payment is made using a co-branded bank card, GoodBarber has integrated the option of choosing the network to be used to carry out the transaction.

To ensure that your app adopts this function and therefore complies with European regulations, simply check the revision number used to compile your app. If the revision number is greater than or equal to the numbers below, you are already compliant. If your revision number is lower, simply recompile the app and submit an update to the stores.

iOS: 10080
Android: 10078
PWA: 10079

These versions and higher include the changes needed to offer a choice of network at the time of payment.

To identify your revision number, go to the Sales channels > Android App > Versions menu.

What your end customer sees when paying

When making a purchase on your eCommerce app, if the user has a co-branded card, they will have the option of selecting the payment network they prefer to use. This selection can also be saved in their profile, if they choose to register their bank card in the application. It is important to note that this choice is optional: if the user does not select a network, the transaction will simply be processed via the default network.

As the administrator of your app, you only have one thing to do: make sure your app is up to date with the latest iOS and Android revisions. Everything else is managed by GoodBarber so that you can continue to offer a smooth payment experience that complies with European regulations.
