The studio's year

Term classes

Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings, around eight to twelve easels: students enroll by the term with a form, and their spot is held until the next school break.

School-break workshops

Three mornings of watercolor in February, of oil landscapes in July: each workshop has its listing in the Agenda and its own sign-up form.

Private sessions

Two hours for a birthday, a bachelorette party or an office team: it's the only thing booked in the app, and the whole group fits in one slot.

The supply list

By medium: what the studio provides, easels, water, aprons, and what everyone brings, brushes, 140 lb paper, tubes of acrylic.

The June show

Students' canvases hung for a weekend: the date in the Agenda, then the photo gallery you publish after the opening.

Private sessions, booked in one go

Two hours, six to twelve painters, one slot for the whole group

The "Private session" section opens two-hour slots on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon: 7 to 9 pm, then 2 to 4 pm and 4:30 to 6:30 pm. The half hour between two groups is never offered: it's for washing brushes and changing the water. The organizer books once for the whole group, and the form asks for the number of participants, the occasion and the medium they'd like, watercolor or acrylic. A slot that takes only one booking is exactly what you need here: the studio is theirs for two hours. The organizer and you each get the confirmation by email, and the session goes into your Google Calendar.

Three ways to come and paint

Only one of these three paths goes through booking; the other two start with a form. None of them is paid in the app.

Painting studio: seven questions about the app

Can a group of eight friends book the whole studio on a Saturday?

Yes: one of them books the 2 pm or 4:30 pm slot in the "Private session" section, then notes in the form that there will be eight of them and that it's Chloe's bachelorette party, in acrylic. The booking covers the whole group, and nobody else can take those two hours. If the organizer backs out, she cancels either in the app or with the link she got when booking: the two hours reopen to other groups, and you're notified by email.

Do my Tuesday students book their spot every week?

No: their spot is secured for the term, through the Form sign-up. Tuesday evening isn't open in the booking section, and the app doesn't create repeating bookings. A student who can't make it lets you know as she does today, by text or phone call.

How do I fill my February workshops?

Give each workshop its listing in the Agenda: the three mornings, the medium, the expected level and the supplies. On the day sign-ups open, schedule a push notification to all your users rather than waiting for Automatic push, which would only go out on the first morning of the workshop. Each sign-up comes in through the Form with an email, and your list exports to CSV.

Where do I post the supply list?

On a page in the app, one per medium: watercolor, acrylic, oil, drawing. Separate what the studio provides from what students bring, and give an exact reference when it matters: 140 lb cold-press paper, synthetic brushes, three primaries and a white. Students pull it up on their phone in the art supply store.

Can I sell my paintings or gift certificates in the app?

No: neither paintings, nor gift certificates, nor workshop spots can be bought in the studio's app. Show your paintings in a gallery, with how to reach you if one catches someone's eye. A gift certificate is sold at the studio; whoever receives it then signs up through the form, like everyone else.

How can I show my students' work?

In a photo gallery you publish yourself, through the year and then after the June show. You choose the canvases, you ask the students for their OK, and nothing goes up without you. A push notification can announce the opening-night gallery the next day.

Do participants get a reminder?

No: no message goes out the day before the session. When booking, the organizer gets a confirmation email, which she forwards to her guests with the address and time. For a workshop, a push notification scheduled for the day before can remind everyone who installed the app of the start time.
Easels shared between the year, the workshops and the groups, and an app to keep it all straight
Private sessions booked by the organizer, term classes and workshops through a form, supply lists by medium, the June show announced in the Agenda: your painting studio has its own app, under its name on iOS and Android, and on the web.
