Free articles, and articles for subscribers

You choose article by article, and how many paragraphs a non-subscriber can read

Reserve your in-depth features, training plans and nutrition advice for subscribers, and keep the rest free to bring in new readers. On a reserved article, you decide how many paragraphs are visible before the invitation to subscribe. You need at least ten reserved pieces of content, and all subscribers get the same access.

Subscribe in one tap on the App Store or Google Play

Subscriptions are bought in the native app, with the reader's Apple or Google account

Your readers subscribe in the iOS and Android apps with their Apple or Google account: no payment form, no card to type. On the web app, a button invites them to download the app to subscribe; once subscribed, they can read your articles there too. A free trial is possible.

No ads for your subscribers

Free readers see your ads, subscribers read without them

If your app shows ads, through your internal ad server, Google AdMob or Google Ad Manager, one option removes them for your subscribers. Your subscription then has two selling points: reserved articles and ad-free reading. GoodBarber takes no commission on your subscriptions; Apple and Google take theirs, 15% in most cases.

A notification with every new issue

Automatic, scheduled or targeted push: your readers come back when you publish

Publish an article and a push goes out automatically, with the prefix of your choice, such as “New feature:”. Schedule your weekly selection at each reader's local time, and choose the section the notification opens. Target by the number of app opens over the last 30 days, the device or the geographic area. Web app readers also get your notifications in compatible browsers.

Launching your magazine app: what you configure, in practice

Three settings before you open subscriptions.
  1. Your sections and articles

Sort your articles into sections and choose the ones you reserve for subscribers: ten at least, with the number of paragraphs others can see.
  2. Your subscriptions

Create a monthly subscription, a yearly one or both, with their prices on the App Store and on Google Play, and a free trial if you want one.
  3. Your notifications

Create one automatic push rule per section, with its prefix and sending hours.

Also in your app

Sections on your terms

Nutrition, training, recovery: sort your articles into sections, with photos and videos.

Bookmarks

Your readers save an article to read it again later.

A subscription page in your colors

Present your offer on a subscription page designed like your magazine.

Subscriber management

Follow your subscribers in the back office and grant a subscription by hand, for example to a partner.

An assistant for your readers

The Chatbot answers from your articles; a non-subscriber only gets answers drawn from free articles.

A native app, and a web app

Your articles can be read in the iOS and Android apps and in the web app, with your design.

AI in your magazine app

Three concrete uses, with their price.
To answer

An assistant that answers from your articles

“How much protein after a workout?” The Chatbot answers from your published articles, in the language of the question. A non-subscriber only gets answers drawn from free articles.
$35/month
To extend

A calorie needs calculator

Describe the section in the back office, for example a calorie needs calculator based on age, weight and activity, and the AI Extension Builder generates it in your app, in your design.
Free
To operate

This week's issue published from Claude or ChatGPT

The MCP server connects your app to the AI assistant you already use: you ask it to publish the article and send the push, you confirm, it runs on your app.

Fitness magazine app: frequently asked questions

Can I reserve some articles for subscribers and keep the rest free?

Yes: you choose article by article, with at least ten reserved pieces of content. On a reserved article, you set how many paragraphs a non-subscriber can read before the invitation to subscribe.

Do I need a native app?

Yes: subscriptions are bought in the iOS and Android apps, with the reader's Apple or Google account. Memberships also needs the web app switched on and a domain name installed; a subscribed reader can then read on the web app.

What commission is taken on subscriptions?

GoodBarber takes nothing. Apple and Google take theirs, 15% in most cases; Apple takes 30% during a subscriber's first year unless you are in its small business program.

Can I offer several tiers, such as digital and premium?

No: there is a single level of access. You can, however, offer several lengths, monthly and yearly, each with its own price on each store.

Can free readers still see ads?

Yes: if your app shows ads, one option removes them for your subscribers, and free readers keep seeing them.
