The salon and the van, two calendars

Your grooming van gets its own section, Google Calendar and route days

At the salon, appointments follow the table; in the van, they follow the route. So the van gets a section of its own, with a separate Google Calendar, open only on route days, Tuesdays and Thursdays for example. The two sections don't read the same calendar: an appointment in the van never closes a slot at the salon. When the van goes in for servicing, one event in its Google Calendar takes that day out of the app.

Owners pick their dog's size, then the time

Breed, weight, last groom, mats: you know the dog before it arrives

The owner opens their dog's section, then picks a free slot. The booking form asks for the breed, the weight, the date of the last groom, the state of the coat in a few words (tangles behind the ears, matting on the belly) and whether the dog wears a muzzle. A poodle that hasn't seen a comb in four months isn't groomed like one that comes in every six weeks, and you read that before you see it. The answers appear in the confirmation email, sent to the salon and to the owner, then in the appointment's description in Google Calendar.

Dropped off in the morning, picked up in the afternoon

Large dogs arrive at opening; small dogs find an hour during the day

A Bernese mountain dog that needs bathing, drying and brushing out won't fit between two small dogs. Open "Large and double-coated" from 8:30 to 11 a.m. only, which makes one 2.5-hour slot: the dog arrives at opening and goes home late in the afternoon, once dry. "Small dogs", in one-hour slots, keeps two windows, 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 6 p.m.; on Mondays, nothing opens. A one-day minimum notice rules out same-day bookings, so no matted large dog turns up that morning to be squeezed in between two Yorkies.

Setting slot lengths by dog size

Within a section, every slot has the same length: for dogs of every size, you multiply the sections, not the calendars.
  1. One section per size

Create "Small dogs" with one-hour slots, "Medium" with 90-minute slots and "Large and double-coated" with 2.5-hour slots. Owners don't choose a duration but their dog's size; the length follows.
  2. All on the table's calendar

Link them all to the grooming table's Google Calendar. A large dog booked from 8:30 to 11 a.m. instantly closes the small and medium slots that overlap it: never two dogs on the table at once.
  3. Cats apart, on a quiet day

A "Cats" section, on the same calendar, opens just one morning a week, the quietest one: a cat copes badly with the barking of a large dog waiting to be dried.

In your salon's app

Before and after

A gallery for each technique, scissor work, clipper cuts, hand-stripping for terriers: owners show the photo of the Westie they want instead of saying "not too short".

Coat care between visits

Short articles: which brush for a curly coat, how to work out a tangle behind the ear, whether to shave a double coat in summer.

Getting your dog ready

A walk just before coming in, no big meal, the leash and the muzzle if it wears one: the page to read the night before.

The loyalty card

One point per groom, validated with a QR code at the front desk, and a free bath after the number of visits you choose.

The salon, parking and directions

The address, where to park with a large dog, one-tap directions and a call button to say they're running late.

How much does a pet grooming salon app cost?

Everything starts with the Premium plan, which publishes the iOS and Android apps. The sections by size and the van's section need Appointment booking: a paid add-on with Premium, already part of the Pro plan. The Loyalty card is paid separately on both plans. The Standard plan, cut down to the web version, has no slots to book and no points card. On top of that come your two developer accounts, which you pay to Apple and Google yourself.
Premium · your grooming apps and their web version$55 /month, billed yearly
Appointment booking option, for Premium$15 /month
Pro · online booking, no add-on needed$105 /month, billed yearly
Loyalty card option, with Premium$8 /month
The Loyalty card requires Authentication, one account per client: an option with Premium, included in Pro.

Pet grooming app: questions from groomers

A poodle and a Lab don't take the same time: how do I set that up?

With one section per size, since a section has only one slot length. The poodle books in "Medium", at 90 minutes, the Lab in "Large and double-coated", at 2.5 hours; both share the table's calendar, so a slot taken on one side closes on the other. The booking screen shows no services and no prices: your rates by size go on a page in the app.

Can clients book a cat groom?

Yes, in a separate "Cats" section with its own slot length and a single morning open each week. Since the booking form is shared by every section, word its questions so they also work for a cat: "breed or coat type", "behavior during grooming".

I also groom at people's homes from a van: one app for both?

Yes: one app, where the van has its own section, linked to a Google Calendar separate from the table's and open only on route days. Because the booking form serves every section, add an optional "address for mobile grooming" field that salon clients leave blank.

Can an owner send me a photo of the coat before booking?

Yes, but not through the booking form, which has no photo field. Add a "Difficult coat" Form with the breed, a few lines and two file fields for the back and the legs. An email flags each submission; you reply with the section to choose, or suggest a dematting session first.

How do I give a free groom after several visits?

With the Loyalty card: one point per groom, validated at the front desk when the owner's app reads the QR code printed from the back office. You set the number of points, the reward, an expiry date and a minimum delay between two validations. A bichon groomed every two months fills a six-point card in a year. The card requires Authentication: each client creates an account.

Do my clients get a reminder the day before?

No: the day before, the app stays silent, with no notification and no text message. The only message the client has received is the email confirming the booking; they can cancel from it, or from the app, and the slot opens up again. To remind everyone of a rule, such as "let us know if you can't come", schedule a push notification.

Can I ask for a deposit for large dogs?

Not in the app: nothing is charged there at booking, neither a deposit nor the groom. Yet a large dog that doesn't show up leaves a whole morning empty on the table. Post your cancellation policy next to your prices and, if you want a deposit, collect it through your usual payment methods.
