Driving school app: students book their lessons with their instructor, manual or automatic
In the evening, students book their next lesson in the car that suits them, with their instructor, and know where to meet and what to bring.

The independent instructor and their car
Just one booking section, tied to the instructor's own Google Calendar. Only their evenings and Saturdays are open for booking; the days they take students to their road test, noted in their calendar, stay closed.

One section per car: students learning on an automatic book in the automatic's section, the others choose between the three manual cars and their instructors.

In a driving school, the scarce resource is the dual-control car and the instructor sitting next to the student. Each booking section stands for one car and is linked to the Google Calendar of the instructor who teaches in it. A student enrolled for automatic lessons opens the automatic car's section and finds only its slots. On a day when the instructor takes students to their road test, they block it in their calendar and their slots vanish from the app. Their weekly day off is simply left out of the section's opening hours.

Pick-up point, hours already driven: the form prepares the lesson
After school or work, students open the app, choose a free slot and fill in the form: name, phone number, preferred pick-up point (the driving school, their high school, the train station) and, for information only, how many hours they've driven so far. An email confirms the lesson to the student and the school, and it also appears in the instructor's Google Calendar. Something comes up? The student cancels in two taps, from the app itself or from their confirmation email; the slot then reopens for someone else.
One-hour or two-hour lessons
After school, on Saturdays, and never on a test day
Slot length is set section by section: if one instructor teaches one-hour lessons and another two-hour lessons, each gets their own. Open, for example, 4:30 to 8:30 pm on weekdays, after school, and on Saturdays, 8 am to noon and 2 to 6 pm. Asking for 24 hours' notice gives you time to get the car and the schedule ready, and a 14-day horizon stops one student from taking the whole month while the others get nothing. Mark test days as exceptional closing days; if lessons were already booked on them, they're canceled and each student gets an email.

The driving school, the high school, the train station: each pick-up point is pinned on a map, and directions open from the phone.

Driving school app: what owners ask first
Can students see how many hours they have left?
No: the app keeps no hours counter and no digital logbook. One booking is one lesson, with no link to a package. Your records stay where they are; the number of hours entered in the form is only what the student tells you.
Can students pay for a lesson package in the app?
No. Booking a lesson takes no payment, and the app doesn't sell packages: they're paid at the school, by your usual means. You can, however, publish your prices and payment terms in the app.
Manual and automatic: how do I keep lessons apart?
With one section per car, linked to its instructor's Google Calendar and set with its own hours. Give the sections names students understand at a glance, such as "Automatic, with Julie" or "Manual, with Karim", and they book straight into the right one.
A student cancels the day before: what happens?
The slot opens up right away, the lesson disappears from the instructor's Google Calendar and the school receives a cancellation email. The app charges nothing: if your terms say a lesson canceled less than 48 hours ahead is still due, write it in the app and apply it at the school.
What about the written test?
It has its own page: theory lessons, quizzes and videos, in the app for online theory lessons. This page is about lessons behind the wheel; both can live in the same app, theory in one part, booking in another.
Can students book their road test in the app?
No. Road test dates come from the licensing authority, such as the DMV, not from the app. When you secure dates, publish them in the app's calendar and announce them with a notification; on the day, the event shows the test center's address and directions.
Can an instructor block an afternoon from their phone?
Yes, for a given afternoon: the instructor enters it in Google Calendar as an event (the car's service, a training day, a personal appointment) and every slot within that time disappears from the booking screen, with no need for the back office. The Wednesday afternoon Julie keeps free all year is simply left out of her section's opening hours, once and for all.
How much does a driving school app cost?
To appear on iOS and Android, a driving school takes the Premium plan, topped up with the Appointment booking option; it comes as standard with the Pro plan.
