Create a senior activity club app
Senior activity club app: the monthly calendar, bus trips and one-on-one smartphone help booked online
Your members check this month's activities, sign up for the next bus trip and book an hour with the volunteer who helps them get the hang of their phone.
No coding needed: build the app of your senior club, nonprofit, senior center or retirement community, on iOS, Android and a web version, with the monthly calendar in the Agenda, sign-ups through a form, a members-only area and one-on-one smartphone help booked online.

This month's calendar
Memory workshop
Mondays at 10 a.m., an hour and a half of word games, mental math and shared memories, twelve people around one table; members sign up through the calendar's form.
Chair exercise
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m., forty-five minutes of balance and stretching, seated on a chair or standing and holding on to it.
Choir
Fridays at 3 p.m., this season's songs and, starting in October, rehearsals for the holiday concert, whose date and venue are in the Agenda.
Game afternoon
Bridge, canasta, Scrabble and dominoes on Wednesdays from 2 to 5 p.m.; snacks come out at 4, and tables form on the spot.
The monthly bus trip
Destination, departure time and pickup point, expected return, what the price covers and the sign-up deadline, all gathered on the trip's listing.
The member who wants Thursday's trip
In the Agenda she finds the lake trip: Thursday, leaving at 8 a.m. from the community hall, back around 6 p.m., lunch included. From the listing, she opens the sign-up form and gives her name, her phone number and that of the friend coming with her. The trip coordinator keeps the list for the bus's fifty seats, then calls her back to confirm.
The new retiree discovering the club
A neighbor told him about the club: he installs the app, whose menu has just four sections, one per need, and browses the calendar, open to everyone. He tries chair exercise one Tuesday, then sends in the membership form. Once his dues are paid at the front desk, his account joins the "Members" group and the members-only area opens to him.
The activity director planning November
Around October 25, she enters November's workshops in the Agenda, each with its time and room. Automatic push takes it from there: on the day of each activity, a notification announces it to every member who has allowed the app's notifications. She can also let Claude or ChatGPT do the typing: once MCP links the assistant to the app, it drafts each event and waits for her okay before publishing.
Smartphone help is booked by the hour
One member per slot, with a volunteer ready for them
Open a "Smartphone help" section linked to the Google Calendar of the volunteer who gives it, with one-hour slots: Tuesdays from 2 to 5 p.m., for example. Each slot has a single taker, and the hour belongs to that member: sending photos to the grandkids, making a video call, finding an app that vanished from the home screen. The booking form asks what they want to learn and which phone they own; the member and the club each get a confirmation email. When the volunteer goes on vacation, they note it in their Google Calendar, and their Tuesdays drop out of the app while they're away. Two volunteers? Two sections, one in each name.

Senior activity club: what activity directors ask
Can members reserve a seat on the bus in the app?
No, they sign up. In Appointment booking, each slot has a single taker, so it could never fill a fifty-seat bus. Sign-ups go through a Form opened from the trip's listing; the trip coordinator gets each one by email, keeps the list and confirms by phone. Bus full? Add "Full" to the trip's title in the Agenda.
How do we announce the monthly calendar?
Publish each activity in the Agenda with its date, time and room, then turn on Automatic push for that section: the notification is sent on the day the activity takes place, not the day you entered it. For the whole month, send a push on the first, or schedule it as soon as everything is online. Members who turn notifications off still find it all in the Agenda.
What is the members-only area for?
It's a section only the "Members" group can see: minutes of the annual meeting, trip photos, the amount of the dues and what they pay for. It takes two options, both part of the Pro plan: Authentication, so each member signs in with their own account, and User groups, to keep the section for that group. You add each new member to the group from the back office once their membership is recorded.
Can a member book smartphone help every week?
One hour at a time: each booking covers a single date, and the app keeps no tally of sessions. They book the next hour once the first is over. If they're not ready to book on their own yet, a relative or the front desk can do it in the app, with the member's name and phone number in the form. A couple coming together takes a single slot.
Can we collect dues in the app?
No: not dues, not trip fares, not workshop fees. They're paid the way they are today: check or cash at the desk, or a bank transfer. The members-only area states the amount, the renewal date and what the dues cover, which spares the front desk the same question every week.
Can we post photos from our trips?
Yes, as long as the people pictured agree: ask for their consent on the membership form, and take a photo down as soon as a member asks. Keep them in the members-only area rather than in open view. With the Submission section, participants send you their own photos of the day; none is published until you approve it.
What about members who don't have a smartphone?
The paper calendar stays: posted at the club, handed out at the front desk or mailed home. The app comes on top of it; it doesn't replace it. The calendar can also be read in the web version, on a relative's computer or tablet, and the front desk can fill in a sign-up form on a member's behalf.
Extension Store
Six extensions for a senior club. Free: the Agenda for the calendar, the Form for sign-ups and Automatic push, the latter from the Premium plan up. Paid add-ons on Premium, part of Pro: Appointment booking for smartphone help, plus Authentication and User groups for the members-only area.
This month's activities, the bus trip and an hour to master a phone: the whole club in one app
A monthly Agenda with a notification on the day of each activity, sign-ups by form, a members-only area, smartphone help booked by the hour: GoodBarber turns it into your club's own app on both stores and on the web, with no code to write. The paper calendar still makes the rounds.
